R2,777 Discovery Miles 27 770 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

The growing importance of projects in organizations, combined with difficulties in their implementation, is accompanied by the need for professional knowledge in the field of project management. It results from the complexity of project management problems and the difficulty of knowledge that must be applied. However, surprisingly little is known about this topic, especially in the context of European small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Project Management in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises: A European Perspective attempts to fill this specific research gap. The book analyses the process of managing projects being implemented by small and medium-sized firms in Europe, identifies organizational processes, and verifies which elements of this processes require improvement. It concentrates on issues around the multifaceted characteristics of project management, with particular emphasis on the process of managing European small and medium enterprises The book is the result of many years of empirical research and consists of two main parts: A systematization of concepts, terminology, and thus knowledge in the field of project management, with particular emphasis on the phases of planning, organizing, as well as leading and controlling in the project, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises, with particular emphasis on their specificity and role in the modern European economy Verification and development of such model procedures in the management of projects so that the SME enterprises’ functioning will be efficient and effective. There is a close relationship between the two parts. The theoretical part is the foundation on which practical considerations are later carried out. Integrating theoretical and practical issues, the book introduces new content to the literature and has the practical value of indicating how to manage projects in small and medium-sized enterprises in the EU. It also examines the decision-making processes related to project management in these organizations.

Sustainability in Project Management - A Functional Approach: Anna Brzozowska, Arnold Pabian, Barbara Pabian Sustainability in Project Management - A Functional Approach
Anna Brzozowska, Arnold Pabian, Barbara Pabian
R1,416 Discovery Miles 14 160 Ships in 9 - 15 working days

This book presents a new approach to the issue of project management, showing how it can be approached through the lens of sustainability. The nature of sustainable project management is not only to achieve economic goals, but also environmental and social ones. Considering project management from the perspective of sustainability is very important because sustainable development cannot keep up with the pace and scale of accumulation of ecological and social problems. The natural potential of the Earth is quickly running low. The global equilibrium between the Earth’s ecosystems, which have developed for millions of years, and the human world of production and consumption, becomes disrupted. The focus is on a functional approach to the subject, allowing management and business to implement the methodology discussed. Topics discussed include sustainable planning, sustainable organizing, sustainable leading and sustainable controlling. The authors use their combined experience in the area to inform their novel approach. The book will be especially useful for people who are project managers, members of project teams and other project stakeholders. It may also be a useful reference for scientists and students studying the fields of management, IT and business.

No enterprise today is proud of being unchanged. Stability is understood more as a sign of stagnation than reliability, and enterprises that do not change and do not evolve are commonly regarded as fossilized. Increasing globalization processes often force today's enterprises to make organizational changes, but the effectiveness of these processes relies on its organizational culture. This book argues that the problem behind organizational culture is its multilevel structure, including the visible and hidden levels. It addresses difficult questions, such as: Is it better to make thorough, but more painful changes, or to gradually introduce small improvements? It also demonstrates that organizational culture is not a fixed phenomenon: its shaping takes place in stages, and it is essential to take such stages into account in the process of implementing the strategy of an enterprise. Providing a comprehensive insight into "organizational culture" and its relationship to change, this book will be essential reading for professionals involved in business management and IT management throughout the world. Its analyses and suggestions will allow for improved organizational culture and change management in business environments.

Ethnoculture in the Diaspora - Between Regionalism and Americanisation (Hardcover): Anna Brzozowska-kraj Ethnoculture in the Diaspora - Between Regionalism and Americanisation (Hardcover)
Anna Brzozowska-kraj
R1,237 Discovery Miles 12 370 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Anna Brzozowska-Krajka's Ethnoculture in the Diaspora: Between Regionalism and Americanisation is a pioneering monograph in Polish and American cultural studies. It deals with various aspects of the functioning of Polish immigrants' folk culture in the context of American multiculturalism. This monograph is based on its author's many years of research into the culture of Polish immigrants in the United States, mainly in the areas of metropolitan Chicago and on the East Coast. It defines the significance of the local (regional) cultures of the immigrants' country of origin for shaping their cultural identity under the conditions of diaspora. It indicates various degrees of identification with and distance from the source culture (of the country of origin). The monograph presents, interprets, and theorizes various forms of cultural expression of the Tatra highlander ethnic subgroup (Gorals) within American Polonia, of the private and public face of its ethnicity. They include musical, song, and dance folklore, folk rituals (of the liturgical year, family rituals), folk art, folk costume, regional architecture, and ethno-marketing. Ethnoculture in the Diaspora is an essential work for the increasingly important field of folkloristic investigations of diasporic cultures that draw on the application of methods from the anthropology of culture and cultural studies. The study also has diagnostic value in the context of the explosion of ethnicity in the U.S. since the 1960s.
